The Crypt of Candlemas

Among the most interesting crypts in the city, Candlemas dates back to the late XII century. The church is on an inverse plan with an apse and side entrance and features six spans with imaginative shells dug in shape of a dome and crowned. A true exercise of architectural excitement also confirmed by the niches of the side walls, with columns and capitals embellished with engraved crosses. From a decorative point of view stands the fresco depicting the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple and a rare image of St. Nicholas the Pilgrim, the "crowd for Christ", patron saint of Trani.
